‘Strangers Welcome’ is  a continuation of Johan Creten's exhibition Le Coeur qui déborde (The Overflowing Heart) at the remote Abbaye de Beaulieu-en-Rouergue in France. The sculptor introduced his colorful mysterious creations alongside new gilded bas-reliefs, presenting viewers with his eclectic metaphors on the human condition.

“Transposing the exhibition from one heart to another: the heart of one of the most remote places in France to that of the bustling contemporary art scene fulfills Creten’s desire to share these works with a wider audience (i.e., to welcome strangers to his most recent oeuvre) and in many ways further solidifies his place among the ranks of contemporary sculptors.”
Dr. Leigh Arnold

The monograph published by Perrotin on this occasion relates this magnificent adventure and is enriched by contributions from Leigh Arnold (Curator at the Nasher Sculpture Center) and Colin Lemoine (Art historian, art critic and writer).

“In the midst of darkness, how do you conjure light? How do you find brightness in the shadows? A question that obsessed the priests of Thebes and Cistercian craftsmen, Goya, Soulages, and Creten.”
